Recommended care after implant surgery

Below are several tips that can reduce the risk of complications and promote healing in the treated area.

24 to 72 hours after the procedure, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • Implant site sensitivity
  • Slight swelling on the face.
  • Possibility of skin color change.
  • Slight bleeding

Immediately after the procedure:

Take medication as prescribed (if needed). Ne Not taking aspirin or any other medication that can thin the blood

Put ice against the cheek where the implant was placed (remove at intervals of 10 minutes, for 1 hour).

Avoid chewing on the side of the procedure as well as touching the inside of the mouth until your check-up appointment 3 weeks later.

In the first 48 hours after surgery:

  • Soft diet (pasta, soup, oatmeal, eggs, liquid dietary supplement [Ensure], ice cream). A good diet provides strength and helps with healing.
  • Avoid brushing the implant (clean only with a Q-tip around the implant). After 72 hours, brush lightly with the toothbrush.
  • Do not suck with your mouth (DO NOT spit, rinse, smoke, drink with a straw or from a bottle).
  • Do not do physical exercise to avoid increasing blood pressure in the face.
  • Do not smoke or consume alcohol

48 hours after surgery:

  • Take 2 tsp. of Oro-clense and rinse for 30 seconds. You should do this 3 times a day for 10 days or until the bottle is finished.

In the case of a bone graft, it is normal for swelling to persist or appear after a few days. The swelling may cause slight numbness as it puts pressure on the nerves. If the pain persists for more than a week please contact us. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
