Take a pain reliever tablet while under the effects of the anaesthetic. When the effect of the anesthesia is over, it is normal to have tenderness and swelling. You may place ice against your face in the area of surgery. Keep the ice in place for ten minutes and remove for ten minutes. Repeat this sequence for two hours after surgery. Ice will help minimize swelling.
There may be a bit of bleeding in the first 24 hours after surgery and there may be some blood in your saliva. If you have a hemorrhage, take a wet tea bag and hold it firmly for 20 minutes where there is bleeding. Do not rinse your mouth as this may prolong the bleeding. If the bleeding continues call the clinic.
The pink material around your teeth is medicated cement that helps protect the area. Usually this bandage is removed after a week. Don't worry if a few small pieces of band-aid fall off. That is normal.
As soon as the band-aid is removed, start brushing your teeth as usual. Rinse your mouth well if you can't brush. After surgery, it is very important to have good oral hygiene in order to obtain better results. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
