Recommended care after bone augmentation

Below are several tips that can reduce the risk of complications and promote the healing of the affected region after bone augmentation.

It is normal to have the following signs a few days after surgery

  • Sensitivity at the site of bone augmentation
  • Slight swelling on the face
  • Possibility of skin color change
  • Slight bleeding
  • Slight loss of bone particles

Take medication immediately as prescribed (if needed). Do not take aspirin or any other medication that may thin the blood.

For the next 48 hours:

  • Put ice against the cheek where we performed the bone augmentation and remove it every 10 minutes for 1 hour.
  • Soft diet (pasta, soup, oatmeal, egg, egg, liquid dietary supplement (Ensure), ice cream) A good diet provides strength and helps healing.
  • Avoid brushing the area where there was bone augmentation.
  • Do not suck with your mouth (do not spit, do not drink through a straw or from a bottle)
  • Do not exert any physical effort or activity to avoid increasing facial blood pressure and the risk of bleeding.
  • Do not smoke and do not consume alcohol, including mouthwashes containing alcohol.

After 48 hours:

Rinse mouth with Oro-clense. Take 1 tbsp (15mL) and rinse for 30 seconds 3x per for 10 days or until the bottle is finished. It is normal for swelling to persist or appear after a few days. The swelling may cause slight numbness as it puts pressure on the nerves. We recommend that you avoid chewing on the side of the procedure as well as touching or pressing on the graft inside the mouth. Taking anti-inflammatories, such as Motrin or Advil, may be recommended after surgery.
